Otokoyama Junmai Kimoto Cup

One of the easy ways to sample sake is by trying out sakes in One Cup (180 ml. cups).

The single-serving cup was initially introduced in Japan so that people could buy sake through dispensing machines. Back then, those sakes sold via these machines were of low-grade sakes for affordability and convenience.

Today, many high-end sake brewers offer their products in 180 ml. cups to make it easy for consumers to taste their product at a lower price. It is also a practical solution in the ‘dinner-for-one’ situation when you do not want to open a 720 ml. bottle.

So for my dinner of Langostino Mac and Cheese, this Otokoyama Junmai Kimoto Cup was perfect in its pairing and quantity. Kimoto style sake boast of its rich, savory, and dry flavor profile derived from the traditional method used to create the yeast starter in sake making process. Accordingly, those Kimoto flavor profiles enhanced the sweetness of Langostinos and balanced out the creamy cheese in the dish.

This Kimoto sake should be enjoyed chilled or at room temperature.
