Red Blend: 66% Syrah and 34% Petite Sirah

I had been complaining that I have to make a day of it to go find great tasting wines outside of Napa or Sonoma. So when a friend invited me to a winery that made delicious Rhone Style wines in my own neighborhood, I was skeptic.

Award winning Casque Wines, is located about 30 minutes from where I live. It’s a quaint little winery with an intimate outdoor sitting area. They offer Bordeaux and Rhone style wines from the Sierra Foothills. I did a tasting of several wines, and I loved every one of them. Rhone blends are so wonderful and this winery is committed to excellence, utilizing traditional French blending techniques and working with best quality fruit.

My favorite was Espion, a full-bodied wine brimming with ripe blackberries and black cherries with a wonderful mouth-feel! This wine would pair well with grilled meats and dishes with a heavy sauce, or even just to sip and enjoy the luxurious aroma and taste of dark fruits and a splash of vanilla.

To top it off, the wines are all priced right where I felt like I was getting an amazing deal. Affordable and delicious are the best kind of wines!
