2016 Yount Ridge, Sauvignon Blanc
Celia Welch is a well known winemaker associated with such notable wineries as Scarecrow Wine, Rewa Vineyards, Barbour Vineyards, etc. So when I received a notice from my favorite wine shop in San Francisco, Golden Gate Wine Cellars (www.ggwc.com) that they were hosting Celia Welch Portfolio Wine Tasting, I definitely had to go!
The tasting featured:
Yount Ridge 2016 Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley
Lindstom 2014 Pinot Noir Dutton Ranch, Russian River Valley
2480 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
Barbaour 2015 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Saint Helena/Napa Valley
Rewa 2015 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Coombsville/Napa Valley
Castiel 2014 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Howell Mountain/Napa Valley
Touched by Celia’s capable hands and talent, all the wines were very tasty. But I fell in love with Yount Ridge right off the bat. I mostly love the reds and I was surprised that I was attracted to this Sauvignon Blanc. This wine is one of Celia’s projects in Oakville, CA. Made from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon ‘Musque Clone’. The aromatics were off the charts with wonderful scent of citrus, stone and tropical fruits, apple blossoms, and grapefruit. Yet, on palate, this wine is crisp, dry, and has vibrant acidity. Probably one of the best SB I’ve tasted from Napa Valley!
